Short answer: Google sets no minimum for Search campaigns, though Demand Gen needs $5 a day. For a Nigerian business, I plan at least ₦150,000 a month in ad spend so the campaign gets enough clicks to optimise.
Your Google Ads budget in Nigeria has two numbers: the lowest amount Google will accept, and the lowest amount that actually produces useful data. They’re very different, and confusing them is the most common reason I see small campaigns fail.
The platform minimum for your Google Ads budget in Nigeria
For Search campaigns you can technically set any daily budget. The exception is Demand Gen: since April 2026, Google enforces a $5 daily floor for Demand Gen campaigns, or the equivalent in local currency.
Google also treats your budget as a daily average. Its help centre says to multiply the daily figure by 30.4 to get the monthly total, and some days will spend more than the daily amount.
The practical minimum: work it out from clicks
A campaign needs a steady flow of clicks before Google’s bidding can learn who converts. I aim for at least 10 clicks a day on the main campaign. The maths is simple:
Daily budget = target daily clicks × average cost per click
So if your keywords cost around ₦500 a click, 10 clicks a day needs about ₦5,000 a day, or roughly ₦152,000 a month. Check real click costs for your keywords in Google’s Keyword Planner before you commit, because legal, finance and real estate terms cost far more than retail ones.
Budget ranges I use as a starting point
| Campaign type | Suggested monthly ad spend |
|---|---|
| Google Search | ₦150,000 to ₦500,000 |
| Google Display | ₦100,000 to ₦300,000 |
These figures are ad spend only. Management fees are separate, and our digital marketing cost guide breaks those down.
Three things Nigerian advertisers miss
- Dollar exposure. Google Ads is commonly billed in USD for Nigerian accounts, so the naira cost of the same budget moves with the exchange rate.
- Tight targeting beats a bigger budget. A small budget spread across all of Nigeria and 200 keywords learns nothing. Narrow the location and keywords first.
- Conversion tracking. Without it, you’re paying for clicks you can’t judge. Set it up before launch, not after.
When a small budget still works
A local service business targeting one city with a handful of high-intent keywords, like “plumber in Lekki”, can get results on less. A national e-commerce brand can’t. Match the budget to the size of the audience you’re chasing.
