SEO cost in Nigeria is usually ₦150,000 to ₦600,000 a month with an agency, ₦50,000 to ₦120,000 with a freelancer, and ₦100,000 to ₦350,000 for a one-off audit.
I get this question on almost every discovery call, and the honest answer is that the price depends on how competitive your market is and how much work your website needs. Below is what each tier really buys, so you can judge any quote you receive.
SEO cost in Nigeria by service level
| Who does the work | Monthly cost | What you typically get |
|---|---|---|
| Freelancer | ₦50,000 to ₦120,000 | Basic on-page fixes on a handful of keywords |
| Small agency | ₦150,000 to ₦300,000 | On-page work, some link building, 10 to 20 keywords |
| Mid-tier agency | ₦300,000 to ₦600,000 | Technical SEO, content and link building together |
| Full-service agency | ₦600,000 to ₦2,000,000+ | Full strategy for competitive niches |
A one-off SEO audit sits between ₦100,000 and ₦350,000. I’d start there if you’re not sure what’s wrong with your site, because it tells you whether you need three months of fixes or a year of content. These ranges come from our full digital marketing cost guide for Nigeria.
What pushes the price up or down
- Competition. Ranking a Lekki fashion boutique is far cheaper than ranking a fintech or a law firm for its main service keyword.
- Your starting point. A slow site with broken pages needs technical work before content can do anything.
- Content volume. If the agency writes your articles, that’s a big part of the fee.
- Tools. Most SEO software is billed in dollars, so naira quotes move with the exchange rate.
What a fair SEO quote should include
A good quote lists the keywords or topics being targeted, the technical fixes planned, how many pieces of content you’ll get each month, and how results will be reported. If it’s one line that says “SEO package”, ask for a breakdown before you pay anything.
Be careful with anyone who promises the first position. Google’s own hiring guidance says plainly that nobody can guarantee a number one ranking.
How long before SEO pays off
Expect three to six months before results are clearly visible. That’s why I treat SEO as a compounding asset rather than a quick campaign. Traffic you earn keeps coming after you stop paying, unlike ads. You can see what that looked like for a crypto brand in our SwiftX SEO case study and for a solar company in the Renik Energy case study.
Is cheap SEO worth it?
Sometimes. If you’re a small local business in a quiet niche, a freelancer fixing your Google Business Profile and on-page basics can be enough. If you’re competing nationally, a ₦50,000 package usually buys activity, not rankings. Spend on the tier that matches your competition, not the tier that feels comfortable.
